Cashion Cultural Legacy

The Cashion Cultural Legacy is a nonprofit arts organization in San José, California
committed to sustaining the preservation, presentation, and education of Mexican folk culture through dance.  Our core dance programming embodies two performing companies, Los Lupeños de San José & Los Lupeños Juvenil as well as public education offered through Los Lupeños Academy.  Our dance projects include an Artist Exchange between California & México and a nascent Publications venture.

Our 5th annual festival, FOLKLOREADA, brought hundreds of dance and music artists and approximately 1,800 members of the community to the Mexican Heritage Plaza on Sunday, May 5, 2024 for an afternoon of traditional folklórico which is now available to watch on YouTube.

Los Lupeños de San José

The pride of San José, Los Lupeños was founded in 1969 by Ramón Morones and Susan Cashion. It’s the oldest continuously operating organized dance company in San José having entertained and educated the public with traditional Mexican folk dance for over five decades.

Los Lupeños Juvenil

Youth ensemble Los Lupeños Juvenil has deep roots in our dance education offerings. Dancers in this performing ensemble range from 10 to 15 years old and learn their craft at an adult level.

Los Lupeños Academy

Los Lupeños Academy offers accessible public folklórico classes to all ages and at all levels. Our instructors not only teach dance, but connect the steps to music, language, customs, culture, and history.

Artist Exchange

Conceived in 2009, our Artist Exchange project supports bilateral artistic residencies in order to fulfill research, education, or performance goals with the intention of broadening the artistic perspective of all participants, whether in the United States or in México.

Publications

Our nascent publications project is focused on collecting, curating, creating, and distributing materials that inform us about the folklórico movement in México and the USA. Early milestones included the 2 publications about the early days of folklórico in California.

The Cashion Cultural Legacy appreciates your generosity over the years.  Personal contributions have allowed us to: provide tuition assistance, purchase costumes, fund artist residencies, produce theater concerts, pay dance studio rent, and accomplish countless other endeavors. Donations made to the Cashion Cultural Legacy, which is a federally-recognized nonprofit 501(c)(3) arts organization, are tax deductible to the extent allowable by current federal tax law.
